Senators commit to support bills on economic recovery, lowering food prices

MANILA, Philippines — Some senators have committed to support bills seeking economic recovery and lowering food prices in the coming 19th Congress.

Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Christopher “Bong” Go, Robin Padilla, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, Cynthia Villar, Mark Villar, and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa met at a restaurant in Makati City on Tuesday to talk about the measures they will support.

“Nag-umpisa kami today na makipag-meeting sa ating mga kasamahan na Senador sa 19th Congress,” Zubiri told reporters in a message.

(We started to meet today with our colleagues in the Senate in the 19th Congress.)

“It was a very productive meeting at nagka-isa kami na suportahan ang mga panukala na kailangan ng ating Bansa para maibalik ang sigla ng ekonomiya, ibaba ang presyo ng bilihin at palakasin ang sector ng Edukasyon para sa mga Kabataan,” he added.

(It was a very productive meeting and we agreed to support measures that the country needs to revive the economy, lower the prices of commodities, and strengthen the education sector for the youth.)

Dela Rosa disclosed in a message to INQUIRER.net. that they likewise talked about the Senate leadership and Senate committees during the meeting,

Zubiri said the meeting on Tuesday morning was the first batch and that a second batch would be held later in the day.

Also on Tuesday, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported that the inflation rate for June hit a three-year high of 6.1 percent.
