Comelec sees 66M voters for Barangay, 23M voters for SK polls in December

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expecting around 66 million voters and 23 million voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, respectively, this December.

“Noong May 9 elections, tayo ay nasa 65 million plus. Inaasahan na madadagdagan ito ng mga 300,000 to 400,000 so aabot tayo sa regular voters sa barangay na around 66 million,” Comelec acting spokesman Rex Laudiangco said in a public briefing Tuesday.

(During the May 9 elections, we had about 65 million-plus. We expect this to increase by 300,000 to 400,000, so we will reach regular voters in the barangay election of around 66 million.)

The Comelec opened the voter registration for the Barangay and SK polls on Monday, July 4, he added. It will run until July 23.

Those who want to participate in the Barangay and SK elections may go to registration sites from Mondays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voters for the SK election should be at least 15 years old but not more than 30 years old on or before December 5. They should also be residents of their respective barangays (villages) for at least six months before election day.

Regular voters, meanwhile, are those who are 18 years old on or before December 5, a Philippine resident for at least one year, and a resident of the barangay where he/she will be voting for at least six months before December 5.

Laudiangco reminded registrants to fill out the application forms correctly and prepare a proof of identity before going to the Comelec.

Registrants may get their application forms in the Comelec’s office. Forms can also be downloaded and printed from their website.
