MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.0 earthquake jolted Dalupiri Island in Cagayan on Friday morning, state seismologists reported.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, struck at 2:40 a.m. some 27 kilometers east of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs added that the earthquake had a depth of 27 kilometers and that aftershocks are expected.
The earthquake was measured at Intensity V in Aparri and Calayan, Cagayan and Flora, Apayao; Intensity IV in Peñablanca and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and Intensity III in Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, instrumental intensities were reported in the following areas:
Intensity V – Claveria, Cagayan
Intensity IV – Laoag City and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Gonzaga and Penablanca, Cagayan
Intensity III – Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Ilagan, Isabela
Intensity II – Tabuk, Kalinga
Intensity I – Baler, Aurora; Santiago City, Isabela; Dagupan City, Pangasinan
