MANILA, Philippines — Shortly after the departure honors for him in Malacañang, former President Rodrigo Duterte went to a posh mall in Makati City to unwind, where he received a rock star-level reception from crowds.

Before stepping down from office at noon on Thursday, Duterte met with his successor, newly-elected President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., at the Palace.
