Ex-Camarines Sur Rep. Nonoy Andaya found dead inside residence

UPDATED MANILA, Philippines — Former Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya was found dead in his room on Thursday morning, the Police Regional Office 5 said.
“Initial report revealed that he was found dead inside his room at Andaya’s Residence, Saint Jude Orchard Subdivision, Concepcion Grande, Naga City at about 7:00 in the morning today, June 30, 2022,” the regional office said in a statement.
In a post on Andaya’s official Facebook page, his children Ranton and Katrina earlier made the announcement.
“With deep grief and sadness, we announce the untimely death of our father, former member of the House of Representatives, Rolando “Nonoy” G. Andaya, Jr., this morning, June 30, 2022,” the post read.
“We request for your fervent prayers for his eternal repose, and to allow us, his family, to grieve privately our loss,” it added.
His family has not yet confirmed the cause of his death.
Andaya ran for the gubernatorial post in Camarines Sur at the recent May polls under Nationalist People’s Coalition but was defeated by Luigi Villafuerte, son of Camarines Sur second district reelectionist Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte.
He was 1st district representative of Camarines Sur from 1998 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2019.
Andaya also served as House Majority Leader for one year under the 17th Congress.
From 2006 to 2010, he served as the Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management under former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration.
