Top town cop, motorcycle rider dead 2 in road mishaps in Batangas, Rizal

LUCENA CITY—The chief of police of Lian town in Batangas and a motorcycle rider died in separate road accidents early Wednesday, June 29, in Taal town and Taytay in Rizal.

The Batangas police reported that while driving a Toyota Fortuner, Major Amiel Bernardo Sanhi Jr. sideswiped a cargo truck running ahead driven by Salvador Segfred in Barangay Tulo at 12:50 a. m.

The victim died while being taken to the Batangas Provincial Hospital.

In a phone interview, Police Staff Sergeant Felix Cantero, the case investigator, said the victim was trying to overtake the truck that resulted in the accident.

The truck driver remains under police custody as the investigation continues.

Rizal

The Police Regional Office 4A reported that Jacon Travecilla was traveling aboard his motorcycle around 1 a.m. when it crashed into an electric post in Barangay San Juan.

The victim was thrown off his vehicle, landed on the pavement, and suffered grave injuries.

He was taken to the nearest hospital but expired on the way.
The police report did not state if the fatality was wearing a crash helmet as mandated by law.
