Child brought to precinct, dies in hospital

AFTER hours of waiting outside a police precinct, a 1-year-old girl died in the hospital in Cebu City last Tuesday.

In a phone interview, PO1 Geann Paolo Saberon said an unidentified woman was found seated beside the Waterfront police precinct 3 at 12 noon and carried a 1-year-old girl in her arms.

Saberon said the woman kept on crying and the 1-year-old girl was already unconscious.

A news source who requested anonymity said Eric Carlos, an employee of a local radio station, passed by the Waterfront police precinct at past 12 noon last Tuesday and saw the woman.

The news source said Carlos approached the woman and rushed the child to the ALU (Associated Labor Union) medical clinic in Pier 1. The 1-year-old girl was brought by an ambulance to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Police said the woman was left outside the police precinct.

The news source told Cebu Daily News that the 1-year-old girl was later declared dead by the doctors in the hospital.

In a radio interview, Chief Insp. Andres Bayarcal, chief of the Waterfront police station, said he has yet to verify reports that the 1-year-old girl was the child of one of his men. Correspondent Rhea Ruth V. Rosell
