Talisay City church bell is not missing

THE barangay captain of Poblacion, Talisay City, belied rumors that the old bell of Sta. Teresa De Avila Parish Church was missing.

Teodoro Belleza said they conducted an ocular inspection last Monday and they found out that the bell was removed from where it used to hang but it was not missing.

A church employee said that the bell was repaired. That is why parishoners did not see it in the church.

Dolores Balaga, 58, said she has not heard the bell ring for months and she hopes to hear it again during masses.

The bell is said to be as old as the Sta. Teresa Parish Church that was built in 1836 and is considered as one of the oldest parish churches in the country. Belleza said they would have wanted to meet with Msgr. Rommel Kintanar to clarify reports about the bell, but Kintanar did not face them when they visited him at his convent.

Cebu Daily News also visited Kintanar to get his side, but he was not around. /Correspondent Gabriel Bonjoc
