Julaton defends title in Argentina this Sat.

IN WHAT promises to be another explosive Philippines vs. Argentina match-up, Fil-Am Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton (10W-2L-1D, 1 KO) will defend her WBO female superbantamweight world title against undefeated hometown girl Yesica Patricia “The Lioness” Marcos (18W-0L-1D, 6 KOs), in San Martin, Argentina this Saturday.

Marcos holds the interim versions of the WBO and WBA belts.

Spanish language boxing website notifight.com reported that Julaton and Marcos finally met in the Government House of Mendoza during a courtesy call with Governor Francisco Perez.

The card will be held at the Teatro Griego Juan Pablo Segundo, a theater whose name suggests that it was christened after the late Pope John Paul II.

The fight marks the third title clash involving Argentine and Filipino boxers in the past six months.

Last Oct. 22, 2011, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire successfully defended his WBO/WBA Bantamweight belts against Omar Narvaez by unanimous decision in New York’s Madison Square Garden. Then on Feb. 10, 2012, Johnriel Casimero of Ormoc City stopped Luis Alberto Lazarte in 10 rounds in Buenos Aires for the IBF interim light flyweight title. That win triggered an ugly riot.

Meanwhile, Argentine Promoter Oswaldo Rivero assured that Julaton will be given adequate security. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
