Up and coming superbantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. who sports an unbeaten record of four straight wins all by knockouts, will fight for the first time in the historic Cebu Coliseum in an eight-round bout against Jeffrey Jimenez of the Casablanca Gym of Manila on June 25.
Growing up in a boxing family has provided Dodie Jr. with an advanced skill set. He has stopped his last three opponents in the first round and it would be interesting to see if Jimenez (5W-8L-2D, 3 KOs) can actually test him.
In the first edition of “Dugong Kampyon” last April, Peñalosa Jr. stopped Ruel Baquiano in one round at the Cebu City Sports Institute Arena in barangay San Nicolas.
The Penalosa Jr. vs. Jimenez battle will be the main event of a fight card promoted by GerryPens Promotions.
Dodie Jr. is the son of former IBF light flyweight and flyweight champion Diosdado “Dodie Boy” Peñalosa. His uncle, former WBC superflyweight and WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa, spoke to Cebu Daily News about the boxing promotion last Friday. Gerry is now retired and is trying his hand as a boxing promoter.
Dodie Jr. is continuing a family tradition. His grandfather, father and uncles fought at the Cebu Coliseum and are part of its rich history. The likes of Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, Bernabe Villacampo, Rene Barrientos, Rolando Navarrete, Donnie Nietes and Manny Pacquiao have also fought at this venue.
Meanwhile, in the supporting main event, Marvin Mabait of Congressman Ernie Fabian Gym of Manila will face Aljun Salogaol of the Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu in a 10 rounder. There will be more bouts in the undercard of this fight card which will be shown on a delayed basis on GMA TV.
A major sponsor for this promotion is Congressman Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao of Sarangani Province.
