CITY OF CALAPAN—An old hanging bridge collapsed on Monday morning, slightly injuring a priest and children scheduled for baptism during the feast day in Sitio (sub-village) Tabuk, Barangay Poblacion in Bulalacao, the southernmost town of Oriental Mindoro province.

The bridge, which collapsed around 8 a.m., connects the sitio to Barangay Poblacion.

“Biglang naputol ang kable na pinagtatalian ng tulay na siyang dahilan kung bakit tumagilid ito (The cable that connects the bridge suddenly snapped),” according to Bulalacao Information Office (BIO) in its social media post.

Among those injured was Fr. Allan Fallaria, the parish priest. The bridge was damaged when battered by Typhoon “Ursula” in 2019, said the BIO.

Jerus Jade Bantugan, a Poblacion resident, said the bridge is the only way from the Sitio to reach the Poblacion.
