Not one but three shops were robbed at the Opulent Building in Cubao, Quezon City, on Monday night.
Senior Police Officer 4 Allan de la Cruz, Quezon City Police District theft and robbery section chief, said the robbers took more than P10 million worth of cash and valuables from a money changer shop, a shipping firm’s ticketing office and a dry goods store. He added that the thieves were apparently familiar with the layout of the shops as they avoided being caught on the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera of one of the establishments.
De la Cruz said the robbers opened the vaults of two of the shops but did not target the vault of the third one because the CCTV was focused on it. They also broke into a dental clinic in the building although they did not take anything.
According to De la Cruz, the thieves entered the building by destroying the lock of the back door located on EDSA. The robbery was discovered only the following day.—Nancy C. Carvajal
