MANILA, Philippines — Senator-elect Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito will chair the Senate’s housing committee, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday.
Duterte made the remark as he graced the awarding of Madayaw Residences units in Davao City to 640 beneficiaries.
“The low-cost housing program is our way of giving back to the country’s hardworking uniformed personnel and civil servants,” he said after handing out the certificates to beneficiaries.
“And these are the things that we would like to continue sana but hindi ko na panahon. So I hope that the program — nandito man si Senator — ‘yung dalawa, sana sila na ang mag-udyok sa administrasyon na hindi kalimutan ‘yung mga proyektong naumpisahan na napakaganda,” the outgoing president added, referring to Ejercito and incumbent Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
(And these are the things that we would like to hopefully continue but it’s not my time anymore. So I hope that the program — the two senators are here — I hope they remind the next administration of the projects that we started which are good.)

“Masuwerte kayo kasi incoming chair pala si — si JV, housing committee sa Senate, mabigat ‘yan,” the chief executive went on.
(You are lucky because JV is the incoming chair, housing committee in the Senate, that’s difficult.)
Duterte, however, said that Ejercito can handle the job.
“Kaya niya. Kaya niya ang — kaya niyang i-sway ‘yung (He can. He can sway) — i-drift (drift) towards the continuance of the program,” he said.
Ejercito took his oath as senator on June 8.
