30 unregistered weighing scales seized in Olongapo, Zambales

OLONGAPO CITY—At least 30 unregistered and nine defective weighing scales were confiscated by authorities on Wednesday (June 22) from several stalls at public markets and stores in this city and nearby Zambales province.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Zambales, a team from the agency and members of the Local Price Coordinating Council held a market saturation in three villages of Olongapo.

During the inspections, DTI representatives found 22 unregistered and three defective weighing scales from the market stalls in the villages of Old Cabalan, New Cabalan, and Sta. Rita.

In Zambales, eight unregistered and six defective weighing scales were seized from vendors at the Castillejos public market.

The DTI has been conducting regular inspections of weighing scales in public markets to ensure that consumers are protected from fraudulent vendors.

Under the Consumer Act of the Philippines or Republic Act 7394, selling goods using defective scales is punishable.
