TAGBILARAN CITY — An “ipo-ipo” or a waterspout was seen on the Tagbilaran Bay on Wednesday, June 22.
Devy Grace Villarojo, 17, said she spotted the sudden appearance of a waterspout near her residence along Graham Avenue in Tagbilaran City.
She went live on Facebook to record the weather phenomenon.
“I was scared because it was my first time to see it,” said the student of the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School.
She said the waterspout started around 10:58 a.m. and lasted only 2 minutes.
According to netizens, waterspouts were also seen in parts of Panglao.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a waterspout is a whirling column of air and water mist.
The main distinction between a tornado and a waterspout is that the former occurs over land, while the latter occurs over water.
