48 volcanic quakes recorded in Mt. Bulusan
LEGAZPI CITY—The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded 48 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin issued on Wednesday, Phivolcs said the volcano also emitted 348 tons of sulfur dioxide on June 21, and a 100-meter-high plume drifted west-northwest.
The volcano’s edifice is still inflated and remains under alert level 1 or in an abnormal condition.
Phivolcs noted an increase in seismic activity on June 20, which means another phreatic eruption is possible.
Bulusan had phreatic eruptions on June 5 and 12 that prompted around 400 individuals to evacuate from ashfall-affected areas.
