MANILA, Philippines — Manila Bay’s dolomite beach will be closed on Thursdays to allow for maintenance work, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said Wednesday.

“Please be informed that the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach is closed every Thursday for maintenance work,” the DENR posted on Facebook.

The P389-million dolomite beach was reopened to the public on Independence Day, June 12 after it was closed in November for rehabilitation.

Around 1,500 to 3,500 visitors are allowed at a time on the 500-meter beach to ensure health protocols are observed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, visitors may only walk and watch the sunset at the beach as swimming is prohibited due to the water quality.

The DENR, however, is pushing to make swimming safe on the dolomite beach before President Rodrigo Duterte ends his term on June 30.
