LUCENA CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region recorded 226 active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday (June 21) showing more than 100 percent increase of infected patients a week ago, health authorities reported.
The Health Education and Promotion Unit of DOH-Calabarzon as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday reported 46 new active infections in the region.
The total number of current active COVID-19 cases in the region reached 227 which were only 113 a week ago, the DOH Calabarzon data on its Facebook showed.
Cavite topped the list with 119 active cases followed by Batangas, 53; Laguna, 49; Rizal, 48; Quezon, 7; and Lucena City, 1.
From June 15 to 21, the five provinces in the region recorded a total of 186 compared to 103 cases from June 8 to 14.
As of June 21, the Calabarzon region recorded 499,792 COVID-cases, 486,044 recoveries and 13,471 deaths since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases placed the Batangas, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal under alert level 1, the most lenient in a five-tier alert status until June 30.
The task force also placed Lucena City, classified as a highly urbanized city in Quezon, and 14 other municipalities in the province under alert level 1.
The rest of Quezon’s 26 localities will remain under alert level 2.
