MANILA, Philippines — Rising COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila do not call for an increase in alert levels, a fellow at independent analytics group Octa Research said on Wednesday.
Currently, Metro Manila is under Alert Level 1 until the end of June.
“[N]o need to increase because our projections show that hospitalizations will remain at manageable levels with a weak surge,” Guido David told INQUIRER.net in a message when asked for his opinion on the alert status in the capital region.
From the group’s projections, cases of COVID-19 will peak between early and mid-July.
COVID-19 infections would already be manageable by August when face-to-face classes will resume, said David.
“[W]e expect it to peak in early to mid-July so the numbers should already be manageable by August,” he said.
“[I] expect the schools and the system will be prepared for resumption of face-to-face classes,” David added.

The country has 4,860 COVID-19 active infections, including 409 new cases logged on Tuesday.
David said that COVID-19 infections may reach 1,000 per day by the end of June or the first week of July.
