LEGAZPI CITY –– The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol has recorded a 150 percent increase in COVID-19 cases in the region during the past week.
In a bulletin released on Monday, June 20, DOH Bicol recorded 15 new cases from June 12 to 18, higher than six cases in the previous week.
Five reported cases were from Sorsogon, six from Catanduanes, three from Camarines Sur and one from Camarines Norte.
The region has recorded 59,158 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020, with 56,216 recoveries and 2,594 deaths.
Noemi Bron, officer-in-charge of the health promotion and communications cluster of DOH Bicol, said the increase could be attributed to the start of in-person activities and gatherings of people.
“There were many gatherings like the elections, fiesta, weddings, etc., and the effect of vaccines is waning over time, so, [they] need a booster,” she said.
As of June 18, a total of 3,417,042 individuals were fully vaccinated, while 394,966 received booster or additional doses.
