Domestic workers in Central Luzon get P500 wage hike

OLONGAPO CITY — Domestic workers, or “kasambahay,” in Central Luzon will receive a P500-increase in their monthly minimum wage starting Monday, June 20.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Central Luzon said the new monthly minimum wage in the region is P5,000 in chartered cities and first-class municipalities. The old wage rate was P4,500.

Domestic workers in the region’s other municipalities will start to get a P4,500 monthly salary. The previous monthly wage rate in these areas was P4,000.

RTWPB’s Wage Order No. RBIII-DW-03 provides for the wage hike.

The board did not allow any exemptions from the new wage order. Employers must pay the domestic workers’ wages in cash at least once a month.

“No deductions shall be made other than those mandated by law,” it said.
