MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 521 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing active cases to 4,740.
The new cases increased the nationwide COVID-19 caseload to 3,696,793, with 3,631,586 recoveries and 60,467 deaths, according to the DOH COVID-19 Tracker website.
Monday’s new cases are slightly lower than the 612 cases recorded on Sunday but were higher compared to the average of 435 recorded from June 13 to 19.
Metro Manila continued to have the most number of newly-recorded cases in the last 14 days with 2,365, followed by Calabarzon with 726 and Western Visayas Visayas with 396.
In Metro Manila, Quezon City had the most reported cases with 544, followed by Manila with 303 and Makati with 292.
The DOH earlier acknowledged that there had been a slight uptick in the number of cases. But it remained firm that there was still no indication of a surge as infections remained preventable.
Previously, however, the DOH announced that it had also already detected local transmission of both the Omicron variants BA.2.12.1. and the BA.5. — both of which health experts feared to be highly transmissible and could even evade vaccine protection.
