MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is conducting a “rapid assessment” of students to determine the learning gaps and create proper interventions as the agency prepares to establish a new system assessment baseline for 2024.

The national assessment, which includes the “Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment” for Grade 3 students and the “National Achievement Test” (NAT) for Grade 6 and Grade 12 learners, is currently being administered in two modes: paper-based and computer-based.

Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said the previous NAT for Grade 10 students was administered in March 2020, but other exit exams were not conducted because of the pandemic.

In a statement, the DepEd announced its intention to join the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment, an international system evaluation designed to give feedback on the quality of education.
