1 motorcyclist dead, 1 critically injured in Quezon road accidents

Motorcyclist dead in hit-and-run in Cavite

LUCENA CITY – A motorcycle rider died while another one is was critically injured after figuring in separate road accidents in Quezon province early Sunday.

Aldin Reus, 39, based on investigation, lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a sharp curve in Barangay (village) Niing in San Antonio town at around 12:30 a.m., the Quezon police reported Sunday.

Reus sustained serious injuries and expired while being transported to Liwag Hospital in neighboring Tiaong town.

The report did not state whether or not the fatality was wearing a crash helmet.

In Pagbilao town, another rider, Levy Abelligos Jr., hit a road sign along the Maharlika Highway after he lost control of his motorcycle in Barangay Ibabang Palsabangon around 3 p.m.

The seriously injured rider was unconscious when he was taken by rescuers to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City, according to the police report.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Ruel Eyatid, the case investigator, said the victim was still confined at the said hospital.

He said a crash helmet was recovered from the accident site.

“But I’m not sure if the victim was wearing it during the accident,” Eyatid said in a phone interview.
