Cops seize over P2.6-M worth of marijuana from 19-year-old suspect in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — At least P2.640-million worth of dried marijuana leaves were seized from a 19-year-old suspect during a buy-bust operation conducted in Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Friday.

According to the NCRPO, the marijuana leaves that police confiscated from suspect Pryx Alonzo came from the storage safe of a certain Jepoy, who is currently detained at the Manila City Hall.

All in all, the dried marijuana leaves from the suspect weighed 22 kilograms, investigators said.

The NCRPO said that the operation, led by the Regional Intelligence Division, the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, and local police officers happened along Juan Luna Street in Manila’s Barangay 60.

The illegal substance is currently under the custody of the Manila Police District’s crime laboratory.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad said that this operation is a testament to the dedication of Metro Manila’s police in implementing the government’s anti-drug campaign.

“Binabati ko ang ating mga tauhan sa walang kapagurang dedikasyon na ipinamamalas ng ating mga operatiba upang matuldukan ang paglaganap ng lahat ng uri ng pinagbabawal na gamot, sa ating rehiyon,” Natividad said.

(I’m commending our personnel for their tireless dedication in conducting these operations to end the proliferation of all kinds of illegal drugs in our region.)

“Magpapatuloy tayo sa pagpapaigting ng ating mga kampanya sa tulong na rin ng ating mga kababyan na nagbibigay ng mga impormasyon at nagtitiwala sa kapulisan,” he added.

(We will continue strengthening our campaign with the help of Filipinos who continue to provide information and trust our officers.) With reports from Xander Dave Ceballos, INQUIRER.net trainee
