LUCENA CITY––Three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered Thursday to government forces in Quezon province.
The Quezon police reported Friday that two rebels, Manny San Juan and Gellie Mae Barredo, turned themselves in at 2:30 p.m. in Lopez town.
The rebel returnees gave up a carbine and an M14 rifle, the police said.
San Juan, a native of Lopez, was a former member of the NPA’s “Cesar Batrallo Command” operating in southern Quezon.
Barredo of Biñan, Laguna, used to be with the NPA’s main regional guerrilla unit.
In Infanta town, a former NPA guerrilla, Regile Aningat, also surrendered around 4:30 p.m.
The rebel gave up an M16A1 Bushmaster rifle, a magazine, and 20 bullets.
The rebel returnees will be given assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).
E-Clip offers free medical treatments, education, housing, and legal aid to rebels who will surrender. INQ
