Army soldier nabbed for firing gun in Carcar

Police arrested a 43-year-old army soldier accused of indiscriminate firing in barangay Poblacion, Carcar, southern Cebu.

Private First Class (PFC) Rene Emnace allegedly fired a gun in front of four children, said police.

Residents of sitio Dam called the police after they heard successive bursts of gunfire at 6:45 p.m. last Monday.

In a phone interview, Chief Insp. Teodulfo C. Manatad III, chief of the Carcar police, said Emnace resisted arrest when policemen arrived in his house.

“We approached him and asked him in a proper way. He was so violent,” said Manatad in Cebuano.

Manatad said no firearm was recovered during the arrest.

Emnace was brought to the Carcar District Hospital where he tested positive for alcohol, said Manatad.

Some residents in the area told police that Emnace is a soldier for about 10 years.

Manatad said they still have to confirm the information.

“We are coordinating with our counterparts so that we can identify which unit he (Emnace) belongs,” Manatad said in Cebuano.

Police said there were several complaints that Emnace would fire his gun whenever he gets drunk.

Emnace was uncooperative in the investigation and refused to talk at the police station.

Police said illegal discharge of firearm, disobedience to authority and resisting arrest will be filed against Emnace.
