Texters stake top spot versus Powerade today

Games today:

Araneta Coliseum

5:15 p.m.- Petron vs. Alaska

7:30 p.m.- Powerade vs. Talk ‘N Text

Talk ‘N Text’s hold of the number one spot will be challenged when the Tropang Texters face the Powerade Tigers today in the main game of the 37th PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

With four wins against a single loss, Talk ‘N Text is on solo top spot but Powerade could dislodge them from that position with a win and create a multiple tie.

The Tigers are tied for third and fourth places with the Air21 Express with both squads holding identical 3-2 (win-loss) records.

The B-Meg Llamados own the second place with four wins and two defeats.

A win by Powerade will create a three-way tie at the top, thus, making the race for an outright semifinal berths tighter.

Both Powerade and Talk ‘N Text are coming from wins with the former taking down the Petron Blaze Boosters, 98-88, and the latter scoring a 113-106 overtime win over the Barako Bull Energy.

That win over the Energy allowed the Texters to rebound a sorry 78-89 loss to the Express.

In the first game, the Boosters play the Alaska Aces, who are also looking to bounce back from a loss.

Petron, Alaska and the Barangay Ginebra Kings are crowding the fifth to seventh spots with similar 3-3 records.

The Boosters started the tournament with two straight losses then racked up three straight wins before bowing to the Tigers.

Alaska has been on and off in this tournament.

The Aces lost to the Express last Friday, 85-88, after scoring an easy 98-90 win over the Meralco Bolts.
