WBA world bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan had an intense six round sparring session with local prospect Marco Demecillo Singwangcha Tuesday afternoon at the Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud (RWS) Gym in Labangon as part of the former’s preparations for his April 4 title defense.
Both boxers did not pull their punches and landed hard shots to the body and head which elicited loud applause from the other boxers and trainers who keenly watched the proceedings.
Kameda is preparing for his title defense against Nouldy Manakane of Indonesia. Local fans may remember Manakane as having lost to AJ Banal in Bohol in 2009. Kameda’s fight against Manakane will be held in Yokohama, Japan.
Demecillo meanwhile, is eyeing the Philippine superbantamweight title currently held by Marvin Mabait.
Former WBA world flyweight champion Daiki Kameda, Koki’s brother, also had a torrid three-round session with up and coming Romnick Magos. Both boxers were impressive with their powerful and well placed punches. The Kameda brothers also sparred with former WBC lt.flyweight champion Rodel Mayol last week.
Daiki, who knocked out Raul Hidalgo of Mexico last year, is penned to face Pompetch Twins Gym of Thailand in the same card in Yokohama on April 4.
Promoter Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud also informed CDN that the Japanese duo will return to Japan Wednesday for the final phase of their preparations for scheduled matches. They have been here in Cebu for more than a week.
