MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Malacañang has declared June 15 this year as a special non-working day in Pampanga to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the “big-bang” eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

On June 13, lawyer Concepcion Zeny Ferrolino-Enad, director of the Malacañang Records Office, sent a copy of Proclamation No. 1366 to Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda, informing the latter about the non-working day.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the proclamation dated June 10.

The proclamation says the declaration of a special day in Pampanga would render appropriate tribute to those who perished, survived, and helped in the relocation, rehabilitation, and recovery of families affected by the eruption.

It said Malacañang proclaimed this in response to the Pampanga provincial government’s request to remember the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Pampanga be given full opportunity to participate in and commemorate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to public health measures of the national government,” the proclamation stated.
