TACLOBAN CITY – A 10-wheeler wing van loaded with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks exploded while it was about to descend a curved portion of the national highway in Bontoc town, Southern Leyte on Saturday night.

A report from the Bontoc municipal police office said the wing van driven by Raymund Entia, 38, was maneuvering a curve and descending a portion of the road at around 9:47 p.m. when it reportedly lost its brakes, causing the vehicle to ram a concrete barrier.

Due to the impact, the LPG tanks exploded.

Entia and his companion, Hermes Barasanon, 22, were able to get out from the burning vehicle although both sustained burns.

The two were immediately brought to a district hospital in Sogod town, also in Southern Leyte, for treatment.

The 10-wheeler wing van was loaded with 700 LPG tanks. It came from Pasay City on its way to Davao City.
