Police say NPA member ‘Ka Jie’ surrenders

CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro—Police said a New People’s Army member surrendered to them on Friday (June 10) in Taytay town, Palawan province.

The Mimaropa ((Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) regional police office said the rebel, known only by her nom de guerre “Ka Jie,” operated in Southern Tagalog.

Col. Rolando Lampad, chief of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Oriental Mindoro, said the 25-year-old woman surrendered to Capt. Marvin Estigoy, OIC of the 401st Battalion Manuever Company at Barangay Poblacion past 10 a.m.

The female rebel, who hails from Puerto Princesa, is now in police custody and will undergo debriefing prior to enrollment in a government program for former rebels called Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

From Jan. 1 to May 27, 2022, Mimaropa police reported the surrender of 80 NPA members through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac), which has billions of pesos in funding.

“The voluntary surrender of 80 CTG members since January this year is a strong proof of the success of the government’s campaign against insurgency and terrorism through the NTF-Elcac,” said Brig. Gen. Sidney Sultan Hernia, Mimaropa police chief.

“It’s about time for those who are already in doubt of their armed movement to return to the fold of the law,” he said.
