UP, Ateneo slip in QS World University Rankings, DLSU, UST keep places

UP slips in QS university ranking

MANILA, Philippines — Two of the country’s “Big Four” universities dropped from its previous spots in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, while the other two consistently ranked in the same bracket.

In the world university rankings revealed Thursday, the University of the Philippines maintained its spot as the country’s top university despite dropping down to the 412th spot — an all-time low for the state university since 2012.

Ateneo de Manila University also slid to the 651-700 bracket from its previous place in the 601-650 bracket.

The University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University, meanwhile, remain at the 801-1000 bracket.

Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States obtained another perfect score as it further cemented its name as the world’s best university for the 11th consecutive year.

Among other globally competitive higher education institutions are the University of Cambridge, Stanford University, University of Oxford, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University College London, ETH Zürich-Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and the University of Chicago.

QS developed its 2023 roundup of nearly 1,500 institutions based on the following indicators:

  • Academic reputation
  • Employer reputation
  • Faculty to students ratio
  • Citations per faculty
  • International student ratio
  • International faculty ratio

International research network and employment outcomes, although not included in the computation of overall scores, were also discussed in the assessment of all universities.
