MANILA, Philippines — Fire struck the Calamba Trade Center in Laguna early Thursday morning and left garments and dry goods worth at least P3 million damaged.
According to the Calamba City Fire Station, the incident was reported to them at 2:20 a.m. It then immediately responded to the fire which was reportedly caused by an electrical spark from a nearby billboard.
“Nagkaroon ng spark, nagliyab at ‘yong mga nasa baba po nitong mga tindahan, nabagsakan po sila ng apoy. Doon na nag-umpisa magkaroon ng sunog,” Fire Officer 3 Jose Potenciano Garcia told INQUIRER.net over the phone. “May seven establishments na magkakatabi ang nadamay dito sa fire na ito.”
(An electrical spark started the fire. The spark fell on the stores below the billboard. Around seven establishments adjacent to each other were affected by the fire.)
He noted that the damaged items, mostly of flammable nature, caused the fire to spread faster.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire at 3:29 a.m.
No casualties or injuries were reported from the fire, Garcia added.
