123 election gun ban violators apprehended in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY — As the election period ends, police in Bicol said Thursday that they have arrested 123 persons for violating the Comelec gun ban.
Within the 6-month period of the 2022 national and local elections, 112 assorted firearms and 23 deadly weapons were confiscated through police and military intensified checkpoints.
The apprehension of gun violators is instrumental to the zero polls-related incidents record and peaceful conduct of the elections in the entire region.
The directive was pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10728, which provides for the rules and regulations on the ban against carrying guns and other weapons from January 9 to June 8, 2022.
“We are very thankful to our partner agencies and the community who have played a huge role in making this election history a success. I am certain that the next six years will lead us to greater heights given the fact that we have worked together to provide our people the chance to choose the candidate whom they think most suitable for the position,” said Police Brigadier General Mario Reyes, Bicol police director.
