Tourist destinations in Sorsogon reopen after Mt. Bulusan eruption

LEGAZPI CITY––Tourist destinations in Irosin town in Sorsogon province were reopened on Wednesday, June 8, lifting the temporary closure imposed during the phreatic eruption on Sunday, June 5, of Bulusan Volcano.

Mayor Alfredo Cielo Jr. announced, in an advisory, that he was lifting the closure order on the tourist destinations in Irosin after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded no more eruptions in Mount Bulusan.

On Sunday, the local chief executive ordered the suspension of activities in tourist destinations after the volcano erupted, sending ashfall to some villages in Juban and Irosin.

With the lifting, Cielo told government officials, concerned agencies, and the public to observe disaster situation protocols strictly for everyone’s safety.

Meanwhile, the 125 families in the two affected towns that sought shelter in various evacuation centers and the Juban town gym packed their things and returned to their homes after municipal disaster risk reduction officials ordered decampment on Wednesday morning.
