MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will provide benefits to the family of a police officer from Cebu province who died during an anti-drug operation, officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. assured on Monday.
In a statement, Danao offered condolences to the family of Police SSgt. Careby Clyde Alinsug, who was killed during an operation at Consolacion town of Cebu last Sunday night.
“The PNP family expresses its deepest condolences to the family of PSSg Alinsug who has shown his allegiance to his country by faithfully fulfilling his duties as a law enforcer,” Danao said.
“He died while fighting criminality within the bounds of his duty. Rest assured that the PNP will give the necessary benefits to his bereaved family,” he added.
Local information said that Alinsug and his companion — a police asset — were sent to verify the existence of drugs in Barangay Casili. The gunman was alleged to be a certain “Tatski,” who supposedly hails from Danao City.
Reports from CDN Digital said that Maj. Renz Talosig, chief of Mabolo Police Station, confirmed that Tatski was killed in a follow-up operation early Monday morning.

According to PNP, the team’s target that includes Alinsug was three suspects, including an ex-convict known as “Tata”. During the anti-drug operation, the victims — Alinsug and his wounded companion — noticed the suspects in Barangay Casili.
However, the suspects were also able to spot the officers. The gunman was said to have pulled out an unknown firearm and shot Alinsug multiple times.
“Alinsug tried to retaliate but was unsuccessful since he was fatally wounded […] The police officer was rushed immediately to the hospital but he was later declared dead by the attending physician,” PNP’s Public Information Office said in its report.
