MANILA, Philippines — All concerned government agencies are on standby 24/7, the Palace said Sunday after the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon was placed under Alert Level 1.

“The Executive is closely monitoring the condition of Bulusan Volcano after a phreatic eruption occurred this morning, June 5, 2022,” acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar said in a statement.

“All concerned agencies are on standby 24/7 after Alert Level 1 has been raised. We remind the public, particularly the residents of surrounding areas, to be vigilant, monitor any development regarding the volcano’s condition and cooperate with local authorities,” he went on.

Bulusan Volcano spewed ash in a phreatic eruption at 10:37 a.m. and lasted for 17 minutes. Alert Level 1 was then hoisted over the volcano.

Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest means that the volcano is “currently in an abnormal condition.”

Residents of Juban town in Sorsogon, affected by the ashfall, were ordered to force evacuate.

Meanwhile, Vice President Leni Robredo has started relief operations for the areas affected by the volcano’s unrest.
