MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Only 2,018,289 or 16.2 percent of the Central Luzon population had received booster shots against COVID-19, data from the Department of Health showed.

The region, which comprises seven provinces and two highly urbanized cities, has a population of 12,422,172 based on the 2020 census.

The COVID-19 cases bulletin issued on May 29 by the Central Luzon Center for Health Development (CLCHD) showed that 8,308,681 or 66.9 percent of the region’s total population were vaccinated fully against the viral disease.

It said 439,683 individuals were waiting for their second dose of the vaccines.

From May 24 to 30, the CLCHD registered 139 new COVID-19 cases in Central Luzon.

Data showed that there were 11 average daily cases within the period.

The CLCHD occasionally conducts vaccination and booster shot activities in its compound in San Fernando, Pampanga. The latest was on May 27, when kids 5 to 17 years old and adults 18 years old and above were given first and second doses of the vaccines against COVID-19.

Second booster shots for frontline healthcare workers, the elderly, and immunocompromised adults were also made available.

Provincial, city and municipal governments in the region continue to conduct vaccination activities.
