MANILA, Philippines — A suspected member of the Daulah Islamiyah (DI) was killed while another was apprehended during an armed encounter with government troops in M’lang, Cotabato, said the military on Thursday.
According to the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) report, the military and an undetermined number of DI members allegedly led by Almoben Camen Sebod clashed in an encounter at Purok 7, Barangay Dunguan, M’lang, Cotabato on Wednesday morning, June 1.
The gunfight resulted in the death of an alleged DI member identified as Monir Lintukan, and the apprehension of another alleged member identified as Randy Karon.
Military troops also recovered assorted armaments including one 5.56mm M16 rifle, one long magazine of M16 with 41 rounds cartridge of caliber 5.56mm ball, one bandolier, and one improvised explosive device.
“Team WestMinCom and our partners from the police and other security forces are always on the job. We are maximizing our joint efforts to eliminate the menaces of society,” said Commander of Western Mindanao Commands Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario in a statement.
