UP slips in THE’s Asian University Rankings for 2022, DLSU keeps spot

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) has slipped in the latest Asian university rankings published by a higher education magazine, while De La Salle University (DLSU) managed to keep its spot.

In the latest ranking of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2022 which was published Thursday, the country’s top university, UP, placed 129th, dropping more than 20 spots below its ranking last year at 84th.

DLSU, on the other hand, maintained its ranking in the 401 to 500 bracket.

Ateneo de Manila University was tagged as a “reporter,” which THE said indicated that “they are active participants in the rankings process, even though they have not been ranked this year.”

The top 10 Asian universities are:

Tsinghua University (China)

Peking University (China)

National University of Singapore (Singapore)

University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

Nanyang Technological University, (Singapore)

The University of Tokyo (Japan)

Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

Seoul National University (South Korea)

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong)

Fudan University (China)

According to THE, it used the same 13 performance indicators as the World University Rankings, but were “recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.”

Its performance indicators were grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
