MANILA, Philippines — Two unidentified male suspects were killed while P68 million worth of crystal meth or shabu was seized in a buy-bust operation in Barangay UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Wednesday.
PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said the suspects, who have yet to be named, sensed that they were dealing with police officers, leading to a gunfight that resulted in their deaths.
“During the supposed transaction, this certain uncle and his cohort sensed that they were dealing with a police officer. Thus, they instantly drew their firearms and shot at the poseur buyer. This prompted our officers, in self-defense, to engage the suspects to stop the aggression,” Danao said in a statement.
The two male suspects were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival, Danao added.
Investigators recovered two caliber .45 pistols, an eco-bag with a green tea package inside containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, along with some 12 bundles of counterfeit money.
Danao, meanwhile, said the police will not stop until they identify the suspects.
“This is vital in building a strong case follow-up,” he said.
