GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija––A man facing a frustrated murder charge was wounded on Tuesday, May 31, after a gunfight with the police in this town, said authorities.

Eugenio Villegas of Barangay San Marcelino drew his .38-caliber revolver and fired, but failed, at authorities serving a warrant against him.

The police shot back and hit Villegas in his right leg. Villegas has been in hiding for eight years.

The police took him to the Guimba District Hospital for treatment. He is facing a new charge for attempted homicide and violation of the election gun ban that ends on June 8.
