OLONGAPO CITY –– Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Zambales representatives and Local Price Coordinating Council members confiscated on Tuesday, May 31, at least 32 unregistered weighing scales at a public market in this city.
DTI Zambales said in an advisory that it monitored 189 stalls at the West Bajac-Bajac Public Market during the market saturation.
The seized unregistered weighing scales must be calibrated and registered with the City Treasurer’s Office, the DTI said.
DTI personnel regularly inspect weighing scales in public markets to ensure consumer protection from fraudulent vendors.
Selling goods using defective scales is punishable under the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
The agency has been training consumer groups on weighing scale inspection and calibration to help monitor these in markets.
