OLONGAPO CITY — Authorities in this city arrested Monday a 22-year-old man after he allegedly tried to sell some crested mynas (Acridotheres cristatellus), locally known as Martinez birds, to an undercover agent.
Norgiel de Jesus of Castillejos town in Zambales province is facing charges for illegal trade and trafficking of wildlife, the local police said.
De Jesus was caught in an entrapment operation after being placed under surveillance for selling the birds online.
Investigators said the suspect tried to sell the 10 Martinez birds for P4,000.
The rescued birds were turned over to the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
