MANILA, Philippines — Authorities are now investigating the death of the chairman of Barangay Tonsuya in Malabon City after he was shot by a gunman over the weekend, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has said.

The victim, identified as Felimon Villanueva, was shot several times in his abdomen by an unidentified suspect while sitting in front of their house on Saturday afternoon, before fleeing aboard a motorcycle with a cohort. Both remained unidentified as of this time.

“As of the moment, the case is still under extensive investigation and we are looking forward to the speedy resolution of the said case not just to give justice to the victim but also to give peace to his bereaved family,” said NCRPO director Police Major General Felipe Natividad, in a statement on Monday night.

A CCTV camera caught the fatal incident, the footage of which is now under possession of the Malabon police, according to Natividad.

Natividad also ordered the Malabon police to coordinate with the victim’s family and relatives to determine any motive or suspect behind the shooting.

After the shooting, Villanueva was brought by some of the residents to the nearest hospital, but the victim eventually expired at around 3:00 p.m on the same day.
