LPA Rain Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) near Davao City will bring rain over the eastern portion of Mindanao on Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Rain is also expected in Palawan and in the Kalayaan Island Group because of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” Pagasa added.

According to Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina in a weather report on Sunday, the LPA was last spotted 790 km east southeast of Davao City, but is not expected to escalate into a storm over the next 24 hours.

“Kaya sa nakikita natin mukhang maliit na ang posibilidad na magkabagyo pa tayo ngayong buwan ng Mayo,” said Badrina.

(From what we can see so far, the possibility of a typhoon this May is small.)

One or two storms are then expected to enter or form in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in June, said Badrina.

The LPA will bring overcast skies and rain in the eastern portion of Mindanao, specifically the Caraga, Davao, and Soccsksargen regions, Pagasa said.

The rest of Mindanao, as well as the entire Visayas, meanwhile, will experience generally fair weather with possible rain in the afternoon and evening due to isolated thunderstorms.
