NAGA CITY –– The Naga City local government commemorated on Friday the 64th birth anniversary of Jesse M. Robredo, who served as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and mayor of Naga for 22 years.

A Mass was held during the occasion, attended by representatives of different sectors in Naga.

“Mayor Jesse Robredo is our model toward good governance, and he would always tell me that we should strive to be better and make something out of what we have even if it is not much because each of us can do something significant to others,” said Mayor Nelson Legacion during the event

Legacion said Naga is way better now after Robredo took over and led the city to be a progressive one.

Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo, who is in the US along with her daughters, expressed her gratitude through a video message to all people who joined the commemoration.

Rep. Gabriel “Gabby” Bordado Jr. said among Jesse’s legacy is “participatory governance,” allowing citizens to join in public decision-making.

Bordado said Jesse’s style of leadership helped Naga become a progressive city.

In 2012, Jesse died in a plane in Masbate province.
