MANILA, Philippines — Traditions will be followed during the inauguration rites for the country’s next president, Malacañang said Tuesday.

While the venue and other matters regarding the inauguration will depend on the presumptive president’s team, there are set protocols and traditions that should be followed, according to acting presidential spokesperson Secretary Martin Andanar.

“Yung inauguration ay magdedepende sa presumptive president at sa kanyang team, kung saan gagawin ito,” Andanar said during Tuesday’s Palace briefing.

“Merong tradisyon, merong mga protocols. I am very certain na those protocols and traditions will be followed. For example, ‘yung pag-welcome ng isang papalabas na pangulo sa bagong pangulo,” he added.

(There are traditions, there are protocols. I am very certain that those protocols and traditions will be followed. For example, the outgoing president will welcome the incoming president.)

President Rodrigo Duterte will step down from office before noon of June 30. Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, is yet to declare winners in the May 9 presidential and vice-presidential elections but partial and unofficial counts showed Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. leading the contest for president.

A meeting has yet to be set between Duterte and Marcos, according to Andanar.

“Wala pang sinasabi [Nothing has been said yet]. We will meet for further announcements…We could know more after the Cabinet meeting next week,” Andanar said.
