16 held for illegal cockfighting in Southern Leyte town
TACLOBAN CITY––Police arrested on Sunday at least 16 men for allegedly engaging in illegal cockfighting in Hinunangan town, Southern Leyte.
The arrest led by Lt. Col. Jovie Espinedo took place in Barangay Talisay at 6:15 p.m.
Seized during the operation were one dead fighting cock and one live fighting cock with an estimated market value of P1,000; gaffing paraphernalia worth P550, and bet money amounting to P700.
The suspects, nine of whom are employees of the Hinunangan municipal government, were brought to the Hinunangan Municipal Police Station and were charged with violating Presidential Decree 449, the anti-cockfighting law.
